Thunderbolt is a new generation of external interface that offers much more than any previous connection type. Thunderbolt allows you to connect a variety of different devices in a daisy chain without limitation. You can connect an external disk via Thunderbolt to your Mac and then connect a monitor display to the hard drive and your computer will detect it.
LaCie is proud to be one of the first manufacturers to produce an external hard drive that utilizes Thunderbolt and there is some important information we want you to know about it.
- Speed: While Thunderbolt has a theoretical transfer rate of 10Gbit/s, there are always other factors when copying data that limit the speed. Real world numbers for our Little Big Disk (LBD) will usually achieve 90MB/s to 300MB/s depending on your computer, system and model of LBD.
- RAID Mode: The LBD has no hardware RAID controller, so instead it ships from our facility preconfigured to be in RAID 0 and formatted HFS+(j).
