Seagate WSS NAS - How to Access with Remote Desktop

Provides instructions for accessing the Windows Server NAS with Windows Remote Desktop connection.

 

NAS is in a Workgroup

NAS in is a Domain Controller or Joined to a Domain

 

NAS in a Workgroup

 

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start Button.

     

  2. Type Remote Desktop in the Search Programs and files field and Enter.

           When Remote Desktop is listed open it.

 

 

Windows 8 or 8.1
 

  1. Press the Windows key Windows key on the keyboard or click the Start button Windows key in the lower left hand corner of the screen.
     

  2. On the screen with the tiles, to Search, begin typing Remote Desktop.


 

Next Steps for Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
 

  1. Open Remote Desktop Connection.

  2. Enter the NAS IP address or the NAS hostname, then click Connect.

Note:  For assistance finding the IP address, check your router’s DHCP client table or the connected device list.  

 

The default name for the Seagate WSS NAS is seagate-wss-nas, unless it has been changed during setup.

 
  1. Enter the Credentials and click OK.  Note:  For first time setup, the user name will be “Administrator” and the password will be “admin”.

 

 
  1. A message will appear that says. "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"  Click Yes.

    You should now be at the Seagate WSS NAS Desktop.  For Help using Remote Desktop click the Help button in the Remote Desktop Application.

 

NAS as a Domain Controller or Joined to a Domain

 

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start Button.

  2. Type Remote Desktop in the Search Programs and files field and Enter.

           When Remote Desktop is listed open it.

 

 

Windows 8 or 8.1
 

  1. Press the Windows key Windows key on the keyboard or click the Start button Windows key in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

  2. On the screen with the tiles, to Search, begin typing Remote Desktop.


 
  1. When Remote Desktop launched, click Show Options.

  1. Enter the NAS IP address or the NAS hostname, in the Computer field.  Note:  

For assistance finding the IP address, check your router’s DHCP client table or the connected device list.   

  1. Type in the Domain Name\User Name in the User name field and click Connect.

Click the Save Option under Connection settings if this login will be used often.

 

 
  1. Enter the Domain Administrator’s password and click Connect.

A message will appear that says. "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"  Click Yes.

You should now be at the Seagate WSS NAS Desktop.  For Help using Remote Desktop click the Help button in the Remote Desktop Application.
