GoFlex TV and FreeAgent Theater Plus - Manual Firmware Update Process

Instructions for manually performing a firmware update on a GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater Plus, especially in case a failed automatic firmware update has prevented the device from properly rebooting.

You may find, just after performing a firmware upgrade on your GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ device, that it fails to reboot. This means that the firmware update process has failed, perhaps because of a loss of power or a power surge.

To recover the function of your GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+, follow this procedure:

  1. Download the latest firmware update.
  2. Connect a USB drive to your computer and copy the install.img file into the USB drive's root folder.
Otherwise stated, save it directly onto the drive letter without creating an extra folder.
  3. Unplug the GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ media player from power.
  4. Safely remove the USB drive from your computer and insert it into one of the GoFlex TV's or FreeAgent Theater+'s USB ports.
  5. Press and hold in the Reset button on the rear of the GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ next to the power outlet while simultaneously reconnecting the power cord to the back of the GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+.
(Refer to the GoFlex TV User Guide or the FreeAgent Theater+ User Guide for a more precise location of the Reset button.)
  6. Continue to hold the Reset button until the Seagate logo appears on the TV. The Updating screen will then open. Wait until it finishes the update before using the GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+.
If the firmware upgrade installation instructions are not followed properly, the firmware upgrade could be data destructive and/or render your hard drive inoperable. As Seagate does not warrant the data on your drive, in addition to regular back-ups, your data should be backed up, if possible, before upgrading the drive firmware.
