The default hostname of your Seagate Central in MacOS is Seagate-XXXXXX (where XXXXXX is the last six digits of the MAC address on the Seagate Central label, which can be found on the bottom of the device).

If you are on the same network as your Seagate Central, you can open a browser and type http://(the hostname).local into the address bar to launch the Seagate Central Assistant.

Example: http://Seagate-123456.local

Please follow this procedure to find the IP address of your Seagate Central in MacOS:

  1. From the Mac desktop, click Go, then Utilities.
  2. Select Network Utility
  3. Select the Ping tab.
  4. Enter the hostname, add .local to it, and click Ping.
    Example: Seagate-123456.local 

    The system replies with the IP address for your Seagate Central.
Note: For Macs running 10.9 or higher, do a search for Network Utility in Spotlight at the top right corner of your screen.

  2. In the Run window, type: cmd

  3. Press Enter.

  4. In the command prompt window, type: ping seagate-XXXXXX 
    (XXXXXX is the last six digits of the MAC on the Seagate Central label)

  5. Press Enter.

The system should reply with the IP address for your Seagate Central.
