To download games directly to your external drive, go to Settings > System > Storage. Choose your external drive as the default storage location. When you purchase or download a new game, it will automatically install on the external drive.
To safely remove an external HDD or SSD from your Xbox, navigate to Settings > System > Storage. Select your external drive and choose Remove storage device. Wait for the notification stating it’s safe to remove the drive before unplugging it.
