How to play music and videos on both Xbox systems with Seagate Wireless Plus via DLNA

Provides instructions for setting up both Xbox consoles to play content stored on a Seagate Wireless Plus device.

Connect the Wireless Plus to the internet concurrently

This articles explains how to view music and videos on both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

Xbox 360:

Please follow these instructions to make the content that is loaded on your Seagate Wireless Plus device accessible through DLNA to your Xbox 360 console:
 

  1. Power on the Seagate Wireless Plus device.
  2. Load desired content to your Wireless Plus, if you have not yet done so.
  3. Connect the Wireless Plus in concurrent mode.
    Please see the end of this article on instructions to connect concurrently.
  4. Once the Seagate Wireless Plus device is set up in concurrent mode, power on the Xbox 360.
  5. From the Xbox Dashboard, select TV + Movies at the top.
  6. Select My Video Apps in the menu.
  7. Select System Video Player.
  8. Under Source, select the Seagate Wireless Plus drive.
  9. The Xbox Dashboard will populate with a list of folders located on the drive. Navigate those folders to the desired content. Please note that only movies supported natively by your Xbox 360 will play properly. Visit the Microsoft website for a list of compatible file formats and codecs.

Xbox One:

Please follow these instructions to make the content that is loaded on your Seagate Wireless Plus device accessible through DLNA to your Xbox One console:
 

  1. Power on the Seagate Wireless Plus device.
  2. Load desired content to your Wireless Plus, if you have not yet done so.
  3. Connect the Wireless Plus in concurrent mode.
    Please see the end of this article on instructions to connect concurrently.
  4. Once the Seagate Wireless Plus device is set up in concurrent mode, power on the Xbox One.
  5. Select the Media Player
  6. Select the Seagate Wireless Plus device your content is on.
  7. Choose what type of media you want to view.
  8. Select how you want to sort the media.
  9. Navigate to the file you want and play it.


How to connect the Wireless Plus to the internet in concurrent mode:
 

  1. Power on the Wireless Plus and wait for the LED to illuminate solid blue.
     
  2. From your computer or mobile device, in the device's Wi-Fi settings, select the Wireless Plus. Please note that from a computer, you will not be able to connect wirelessly if you have a wired connection already established.
     
  3. Launch the Seagate Media app, or launch a web browser, and type the following into the address bar:
    172.25.0.1

    Then press Enter.
     
  4. Click the Three Bars at the top left and then the connection icon.

  1. Select Connect Seagate Wireless Device to the Internet

  1. Select the network you want to join. If security is enabled on the selected Wi-Fi network, enter the required password.  Make sure not to select "Secure this network" or the Xbox won't see the Wireless Device on the network.
  1. Once you have chosen your network, it will begin to connect you to the Internet and your Wireless Plus at the same time.

    Note: A message may display, stating that you are no longer connected to the Wireless Plus. This is normal. Please allow 45-60 seconds for it to reconnect with the Wireless Plus and the selected Wi-Fi network.
     
  2. The Wi-Fi icon changes.

Your device is now connected concurrently.This means that you are able to browse the Internet and view the media stored on the Wireless Plus simultaneously. To return to your content, re-launch the Seagate Media app or type 172.25.0.1 into the address bar of your browser.
