You may find that the computer crashes when you attempt to update the firmware in a configuration with the following characteristics:

a 5big Thunderbolt 2
-
Configured as JBOD
-
Connected to a computer with Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan).
If your attempt to update the firmware causes an error or freeze of your operating system, please follow this procedure:

Shut down your computer.

Disconnect all peripherals from the computer.
-
Withdraw all five individual hard drives from the back of the 5big.
-
Connect only the 5big to the computer.
-
Power on your computer.
-
Launch LaCie RAID Manager.
-
Update the firmware of the 5big (instructions here).
-
Once the firmware update is complete, shut down the computer.
-
Disconnect the 5big.
-
Push all five individual drives back into the 5big.
-
Power on your computer.
At this point, the 5big device should function normally with up-to-date firmware.
