Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSD Experiencing Sudden Disconnects or I/O Errors

The following information only applies to a Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSD connected to a SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port).

This article does not apply if the drive is connected to one of the following ports:

  • USB-A (USB 3.0)
  • USB-C Gen 1
  • USB-C Gen 2
  • Thunderbolt 3

The Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSD has a SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2) interface. When FireCuda Gaming SSD is connected to a compatible SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps port on the computer, there may be instances when the drive experiences a sudden disconnect or errors while writing or reading files from the device.

The errors have only been reported when operating under 20Gbps, and operate normally under 10Gbps. To mitigate these sudden disconnects or errors, Seagate has implemented a feature within Seagate Toolkit allowing users to toggle between USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 (up to 20 Gb/s) and USB-C Gen 2 (up to 10 Gb/s). Toolkit provides users with this function to easily switch between these two modes allowing for a more seamless experience while using FireCuda Gaming SSD. Toolkit also allows you to toggle back to full USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 performance. Click here for instructions on using the feature.
